Secondary Schools Open/Closed to Transfers

​Each year, York Region District School Board staff work collaboratively to balance student enrolment and accommodation needs in an effort to ensure that students living in a school attendance area can attend their local secondary school. Those accepted on transfer into courses and/or programs outside their home school attendance area need to be accommodated without displacing or limiting opportunity for students who live locally.

In order to assist schools in their planning process and students in their course selection and pathways choices, information is available which outlines secondary schools "closed" or "open" to new transfer requests for the upcoming and current school year. Information has been categorized under the following headings:

A. Schools Closed to New Transfers

The following schools will not be accepting new student transfer requests for the 2021-2022 school year​:

CEC CentralAurora HS (except from Highview PS and Regency Acres PS), Bayview SS, Richmond Hill HS
CEC EastMarkville SS, Pierre Elliott Trudeau HS
CEC NorthNewmarket HS
CEC WestHodan Nalayeh SS (only for French Immersion)

 

B. Schools Open to New Transfer Requests

The following schools will be open to new student transfer requests for the 2021-2022 school year: ​

CEC CentralAlexander Mackenzie HS, Aurora HS (only from Highview PS and Regency Acres PS), Dr. G.W. Williams SS, King City SS, Langstaff SS, Richmond Green SS
CEC EastBill Hogarth SS, Bur Oak SS, Markham District HS, Middlefield CI, Milliken Mills HS, Unionville HS
CEC NorthDr. John M. Denison SS, Huron Heights SS, Keswick HS, Sir William Mulock SS, Stouffville District SS, Sutton District HS
CEC WestEmily Carr SS, Maple HS, Stephen Lewis SS, Thornhill SS, Thornlea SS, Tommy Douglas SS, Hodan Nalayeh SS (only for Regular Track), Westmount CI, Woodbridge College

The following schools will not be accepting new student transfer requests for the 2020-2021 school year​:

Transfer Process Dates

Note:

  • “Home school” refers to the YRDSB face-to-face school you are either attending or would have attended this year.
  • Where your signature is required, either an electronic signature or full name entered in the signature field will be accepted as a signature.

By Feb. 5, 2021 - Electronic Transfer Request forms must be requested from and are due to the home schools as indicated below:

  • current YRDSB Grade 8 students request from and submit to your elementary home school
  • current secondary school YRDSB students request from and submit to your secondary home school
  • Secondary students new to YRDSB for the 2021-22 school year request from, and submit to their YRDSB secondary home school (as indicated in school locator) along with a registration form

By Feb. 11, 2021 - students will be notified of the decision of their transfer request.

By Feb. 24, 2021 - course selections are due as indicated below:

  • current Grade 8 YRDSB students will complete course selection in My Pathway Planner
  • current secondary school YRDSB students and secondary school students new to YRDSB will complete course selection as indicated by the secondary school
