Parent engagement matters. Studies have shown us that student achievement improves when parents play an active role in their children's education, and that good schools become even better schools when parents are involved. It is recognized that parent engagement is a key factor in the enhancement of student achievement and well-being.
The purpose of the Parent Family and Community Engagement Advisory
Committee (PEAC) is to support, encourage and enhance parent engagement at
the Board level in order to improve student achievement and well-being.
PEAC shall achieve its purpose by:
• providing information and advice on parent engagement to the Board;
• communicating with and supporting school councils of schools of the Board;
• undertaking activities to help parents of pupils of the Board support their
children’s learning at home and at school
How to Get Involved
YRDSB Seeks Parent, Family and Community Engagement Advisory Committee Members
The York Region District School Board values parent, family and community engagement in public education and the positive impact it has on student achievement and well-being. The York Region District School Board is accepting applications for membership on the Board’s Parent, Family and Community Engagement Advisory Committee (PEAC).
Applications are due June 15, 2021.
PEAC supports, encourages and enhances parent engagement at the Board level in order to improve student achievement and well-being. It represents the collective voice of parents who have children attending public schools in York Region.
Members are expected to attend a minimum of five meetings each year at the Education Centre in Aurora or virtually during the current pandemic. The first meeting date for the new membership is November 25, 2021.
Parents/guardians interested in serving as a member of PEAC are asked to submit an electronic application by June 15, 2021 (final deadline).
The following Community Education Centre (CEC) school areas are receiving applications for the next term:
- CEC Central Elementary
- CEC East Elementary
- CEC East Secondary
- CEC North Elementary
- CEC North Secondary
- CEC West Elementary
Interested applicants are asked to applying to the school area where your respective school is. If you are unsure of your respective school area, please refer to the Schools at a Glance (PDF).
