Online Learning Secondary Summer School [Asynchronous]

The York Region District School Board provides learners a flexible approach to earning credits in the summer through Online Learning. 

Online Learning courses are taught by YRDSB teachers using Ontario's Virtual Learning Environment-BrightSpace by D2L. All coursework must be submitted through BrightSpace by D2L. Students are not required to log in at a specific time each day.  Classes occur online using an asynchronous model, with synchronous learning opportunities offered with the teacher.

Students may be required to write an in person exam and must reside in Ontario for the duration of the course. 

Students must have access to a desktop, Chromebook, or laptop computer with high-speed internet to do coursework. Cellphones are not suitable for completing required coursework. 

Online Learning Secondary Summer School is available to:

  • Students who attend a Day School in Ontario during the regular school year.
  • Non-Students with Canadian status who are residents of Ontario

Please Note:

Registration period: April 15, 2025 - June 6, 2025

Course Dates

  • Full Credit Courses: July 2 - 25, 2025
  • Half Credit Course [Session One] : July 2 - 14, 2025
  • Half Credit Course [Session Two] :  July 15 - 25, 2025

During the summer session students are required to work on their course for six to eight hours daily and hand in work regularly. There is flexibility, students may log in at a convenient time for them.

Students who do not login for 3 consecutive days or fail to submit 3 consecutive assignments, tasks, or activities will be deemed inactive and removed from the course.

Complete applications will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis. Applications that include inappropriate email addresses will not be processed. Register during the registration period.
