Please visit the IRCC website regularly for updates to the travel policy.
We encourage you to make travel plans only when your child has met any of the required travel conditions. International students, and accompanying family members, entering Canada must follow the travel guidelines established by the Government of Canada. A checklist is available to guide you through the steps.
Once the Study Permit approval letter has been issued from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), book a flight to Canada.
Plan to arrive at least 2 weeks prior to the school start date indicated in the Letter of Acceptance.

Complete the Arrival Confirmation Form.
- Secondary Students - Plan to arrive prior to the start of orientation which begins two weeks before the start of the semester (mid-August for the September semester, or mid-January for the February semester). More information will be forthcoming.
Elementary Students - It is recommended that the students arrive in Canada one to two weeks prior to the start of the program.
The latest date students may arrive is September 15 if starting school in September OR February 15 if starting school in February. If arrival is after these dates, enrollment will be deferred to the next semester. Please notify admissions@yrdsb.ca if the student cannot arrive before these dates.
The school start date is indicated on the Letter of Acceptance.

All new secondary school students are required to participate in orientation activities which begin two weeks prior to the first day of school. Detailed information regarding orientation will be forwarded to you prior to your arrival.

Bring these documents with you as they are required during the documentation verification process:
- Original student passport
- Original study permit (if applicable)
- Original Visitor/entry visa if applicable (not required in all cases)
- Custodian Declaration Forms (if changed since application)
- Education Services Agreement (if NOT residing with parents). Parents, the custodian and the student are required to sign this document.
- The most recent school report cards/transcripts which are required by the school.
Assessment of English and Math skills as well as school registration for secondary students will be arranged during August.
The medical Insurance card and policy will be sent by email to the custodian. The insurance notification is issued from MSH America.

Upon arrival to Canada, complete the online form to schedule an appointment with the Reception Centre. You will be contacted by phone, to schedule an appointment to verify documents.

Please prepare the following documents, as they are required during the documentation verification process:

- The most recent school report cards/transcripts which are required by the school (to submit to the school)
- Proof of residency is required in the form of various documents. Please refer to the Reception Centre web page for more information.

An assessment of English will be scheduled by the Reception Centre staff for students entering grade 7 & 8.
The medical Insurance card and policy will be sent by email to the custodian and primary parent. The insurance notification is issued from MSH America.
