Aquatic Leadership Program (Vaughan)

Part 2: ​Recreation and Healthy Active Living Leadership, Grade 12 University/College (PLF4M1) - Semester 2

This program includes the Lifesaving Society's National Lifeguard Certification and the Lifesaving Society’s Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Certification which are embedded in the Ontario Curriculum

Ministry of Education - Ontario Secondary School Credit and Lifesaving Society Certifications:

  • ​1 Secondary School Credit – Recreation and Healthy Active Living Leadership, Grade 12 University/College (PLF4M1)
  • Lifesaving Society's National Lifeguard Certification
  • Lifesaving Society’s Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Certification

Prerequisites

Students must:

  • hold Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid (current certifications preferred)
  • be 15 years of age by test dates
  • currently attend a Secondary School (Grades 9 - 12)
  • have completed at least 1 Secondary School Health and Physical Education Credit

Start Date:  Tuesday, February 10, 2026

End Date:  Tuesday, June 9, 2026

Times:   5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Cost: Please refer to the City of Vaughan for more information - cost covers Lifesaving Society course materials and exam fees.

Aquatic Leadership Courses through the City of Vaughan recommend 100% attendance. Late admission cannot be granted. For this reason, cancellation requests must be submitted a minimum of five business days prior to the start of the first class in order to receive a refund. No refund will be granted for late requests.

Course Expectations will be assessed and evaluated using Standard Lifesaving Society evaluation criteria and the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum Expectations.

An examiner and Instructor Trainer from the Lifesaving Society will evaluate the aquatic skills required for National Lifeguard and Swim and Lifesaving Instructor certifications.

How to Register


Registration involves two steps:

Step 1. Register with YRDSB Aquatic Leadership Program (Vaughan).

Step 2. Register with the City of Vaughan.  Registration with the City of Vaughan will not occur until the course is confirmed to be running. 

The decision to run classes is based on student enrollment and teacher availability. Students must attend all classes. Assessments and Evaluations will occur throughout the program.

International Student Fee:  A payment of $1,000 will be collected electronically once programming starts. Please note refunds available upon request in writing up until the third day of class.
