Achieving My Goals

Achieving your goals requires planning and commitment. There are a number of resources to support you along the way. Surround yourself with people who can support your planning and take advantage of what they have to offer. Remember it is up to you to ask, listen and learn.

Family

  • Listen to your parents and other family members - you can learn a lot from their experience.
  • Talk about issues that interest you, and listen to what they say.
  • Ask them about what they feel they could have done differently in their own planning.

School

  • Access the many resources available both in and out of the classroom.
  • Speak to your teachers or guidance counsellor if you have specific questions or are just not sure where to begin.
  • Seek out opportunities like co-op, SHSM, OYAP and Dual Credit or extra-curricular activities where you can get more experience in areas that interest you.
  • Take advantage of field trips and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Refer to Student Tools and Resources to find out if there are more resources for you.

Community

  • Gather information from people who live or work in your community who will help support your goal, such as your coach, a neighbour, peer mentor or a local member of your community.
  • Reflect on their experiences as motivation to persevere with your goals and plans.

Workplace

  • Build a network through your community involvement, part-time job and/or co-op placement to discover related careers, explore labour market trends, and to learn about new opportunities.
